Background History

The timeless imagery of Sarah Kay was created by Valentine Publishing artist Vivien Kubbos and introduced in Australia in the early 1970’s. It was subsequently discovered by two brothers who were book publishers from Liege Belgium and extended to Germany, Italy, Iberia and Latin America.

Soon Sarah Kay became a much beloved part of girls’ childhoods throughout Europe. Valentine Publishing eventually became John Sands (Australia) Ltd, who manage the brand today. The simple charm and innocence of Sarah Kay fell out of fashion in the 80’s and 90’s and early 00’s but was resurrected from the archives in 2005. The triumphant re-introduction lead to the development of a European licensing programme. This programme successfully tapped into the heritage of the Sarah Kay brand finding a receptive audience of consumers and Licensees.

Today Sarah Kay is timeless and classic, with a message that may be even more relevant to today’s girls than when it was launched over 30 years ago. Her world is anchored in the garden and of the earth.
